Blessings Upon Blessings

This past December has brought many blessings to and from your Preschool here! It all started at the beginning of the month with the Preschoolers being able to gather and share the Great news of Jesus' birth with everyone. The children had so much joy sharing that program with all of you and their families. I would like to send a huge thank you to the congregation for talking with these families as they visit our Church and Program. Having all of your friendly faces here for the support and your willingness to stop and talk to the families and make a connection with them. When you do this you really help make a connection with them and help ease their nerves. Thank you for all that support! As a thank you for all that you do the Preschoolers have made a special gift for you. Be sure to check out your mailbox if you have not already!

After the children's program finished, we began working on the children's Christmas presents to their parents. They had such a blast making these gifts. The hardest part was helping the children to keep it a secret.... that was not an easy task! However, they managed to pull it off! They did such a wonderful job making these gifts and they all turned out beautiful!

We ended school right before Christmas with our Christmas party. The children had a blast making their nativity ornaments, making their crazy mixture snack, watching a brief story on the birth of Jesus, and having a birthday party for Jesus! The children left on that day really knowing the real reason for Christmas! What a blessing it was to hear the children proclaim the good news of Jesus' birth! Happy New Year!

So Much to be Thankful For!

November brought many things to be thankful for. It all started with the enrollment of 4 more students and only continued to grow from there. The children then talked about what it means to be thankful and what things they are thankful for. Many of their responses were moms, dads, grandma, grandpa, brothers, sisters, toys, clothes, food, school, friends, and the list went on. However, there was one more that they said and it was one of the best ones yet....God. The children discussed why this one was so important to them and why they wanted to be sure to say it.

Our blessings didn't stop there though! We had a family let us borrow a close to life-size whale/large fish that they had made. Our story was Jonah and the big fish. The children could go into this large fish and sit inside and hear our story. They really enjoyed being able to feel like they were part of the story! They did not want to hear about when we had to send it back, and they look forward to it possibly reappearing later this year!

Our fun did not stop there though! The children had a blast making so many turkeys! They were always asking what the next turkey was going to be! One day we even went outside and collected leaves to make the feathers for our turkey. That was a fun learning experience for them. They had to figure out 10 large leaves, then how they would attach them and get them to stay. The children loved making all the different kinds to be able to take home and share with family.

Without all of your support, this would not have been possible! Thank you to all of you for all you have done!

Mark your calendars for December 6th! The preschool Christmas service will be that day. We will figure out the details depending upon the Governor's restrictions at that time. Stay tuned for more information!
Blessings,

Full Steam Ahead!

The second month of school has been absolutely wonderful! The children are beginning to settle in and show that they are understanding the routines and procedures that we use here at school. These 15 children that we have, are such a blessing to our school!

The children had their first church singing this past month! 10 of the 15 children and their families came that day! We had a wonderful turnout! For some of these children it was their first time in front of a large crowd and we did have two children who just couldn’t bring themselves to join us when we went up and sang. Thankfully, it gives us something to talk about now and it can help them understand for our Christmas program what to expect and how we can grow from this first experience! If you were unable to be here when the children sang, feel free to check out the video on the Preschool Facebook page!

We looked at a few different themes this month included looking at leaves. The children really got into looking at the shapes of leaves and how they are all different. We discussed how their colors change as well. The children really had a fun looking at all the different colors that leaves can change. Then we moved on to experimenting. Oh boy! The children had a blast taking a look at all of the projects that we did from walking water to rubber eggs to oobleck to rockets! They really enjoyed getting in on some of the ooey gooey projects as well as understanding when we needed to stand back to be safe. The last week of October will be filled with talks of Martin Luther and a lot of pumpkin making!

November will be filled with Parent Teacher Conferences, Thanksgiving break, and working hard on our Christmas Program December 6th at 9am! Mark your calendars for this date and come join us as the children tell us about the Shapes of Christmas!

One last note! Please continue to share our new Preschool Phone number with everyone you know! Our new number is 559-575-0907.Thank you for the continued prayers and support that you continue to give!

Off To a Great Start!

The school year has gotten off to a great start! The children have loved being able to come to school and be with friends! This would not have been possible without all the great blessings that God has given us! Thank you to everyone for helping make this program a success. We currently have 16 children enrolled. They come and hear a Bible story every day and on Wednesdays and Thursdays we have chapel with Pastor in the church. The children really enjoy that time! We have started working on some letters of the alphabet and even started talking about apples. The children thought it was really neat looking at the inside (core) of the apple! To add to all of that they have been working really hard at identifying their written name and have even started working on writing it! Go Preschoolers!

One thing that I’d like to make sure to keep the congregation informed on is why the enrollment numbers will possibly stay lower this year than planned. The COVID-19 rules impact our attendance, in that a “cohort system”  is in place where I cannot have group sizes of more than 14. I am able to teach two cohorts (morning and afternoon).  Our morning sessions are pretty well maxed out while this requirement is in place, but we have plenty of room for more in the afternoon.  However, that is when many children this age nap and therefore this is not a real sought-after time slot. Please continue to pray that these restrictions be lifted soon so that we may be able to reach more and more families in our community. With these restrictions, we will see some impacts in our revenue income. Please know that we are continuously working to find other ways to help support our program, but this year will be different than what was originally planned as far as the ECM being self sufficient. Please continue to keep the preschool in your prayers as we work through the different steps ahead of us. One last note! Please share our new Preschool phone number with everyone you know! We had to change the number due to some issues with receiving calls. Here is the new number: 559-575-0907.

Thank you, each and every one of you, for the outpouring support that you continue to give! Karla Opperman
